Shared note: From "The Examiner", Frederick, Maryland, Friday, February 15, 1861: "Manslaughter - a fracas occurr… From "The Examiner", Frederick, Maryland, Friday, February 15, 1861: "Manslaughter - a fracas occurred between two negroes at Knoxville [Maryland; near Harper's Ferry], on the 5th instant, in which a white man, named Hanson Poole, interfered for the purpose of parting them. After doing so, one of the negroes, named Goings, became insolvent to Mr. Poole, who resented it; when Goings threw a heavy stone and struck him behind the ear, crushing his skull. Poole was taken up senseless and carried home, where he died on last Friday night of the wound. Goings is in jail and will be tried at the present term of the Court; in consequence of which we forbear to give the rumors in circulation, which are too conflicting as to the degree of the crime committed, to be relied on." |

The deceased was in her 73d year and leaves a son, Mr. Geo. Poole, who resides here, and a daughter, Mrs. John Layman, who also resides here. The remains will be borne to their final resting place by Messrs. Carlton Dean, Jacob Smith, William Fulmer and John Coblentz, on Thursday morning next at 9 o'clock. The interment will be made in the graveyard at Mt. Zion Chapel. A. T. Rice & Sons have charge of the funeral arrangements." |

Date: December 31, 2018 Text: "George Wm. Poole, aged 71 years died early this morning at the City Hospital. Mr. Poole was formerly of near Mt. Philip, where he followed trucking for many years. He had lived in this city for several years past. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Roy Poole, Brunswick; Edward Poole, Braddock; Mrs. Floyd Zimmerman, this city; Mrs. Harry Barnes, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Roy Shaffer, Middletown Valley; Mrs. Bessie Poole, caretaker of Braddock Heights, is a daughter-in-law. A sister, Mrs. Kate Layman, near Feagaville, also survives. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services at the late home, No. 223 East Sixth street. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Thomas P. Rice, funeral director."
