How does this William Clingan fit into my Clingan line? He lived in the same area as William Clingan, brother of George and Thomas. He even married a lady with last name of Black (Jane Jordan also married a man named Black). But, I have not been able to link this Clingan lin e to my own yet.

!BIRTH: Calculated from his tombstone inscription and from the obituary in the local newspaper that said he was age 70 when he died. His birth date would be abt 1756
!MARRIAGE #1: Abt. 1783 to Margaret Clingan. Her tombstone inscription in Faggs Manor Cemetery indicates she was age 24 when she died July 6, 1787. The cemetery records indicate she was the wif e of William Clingan, Esq. She is buried in Faggs Manor Cemetery, Lot 126-F, Chester Co PA. beside her husband.
!MARRIAGE #2: 18 Sep 1788, West Fallowfield, Chester, PA. This marriage date was obtained from a DAR Record. He married Jane Black, daughter of Charles and Frances Black. The will of Charles Black and Frances Black mention their daughter Jane Black now married to William Clingan. Jane died 3 Aug 1822 at age 57 yrs 11 months as told on her tombstone. She is buried in Faggs Manor Chester County, PA, lot 126-F next to her husband.
!DEATH: 16 Dec 1826 at age 70 years. This is what is on his cemetery records at Faggs Manor Cemet ery, Chester County, PA He is buried in Lot 126-F next to both his wives. William died inte state. The administrator of his estate was Abisha Clark. There were several obituaries in local newspapers about his demise. One reads "At his residence, in West Fallowfield on Saturda y, the 16th ult. William Clingan esq. aged about 70 years." Article dated 1-2-1827. Letter of Administration dated Jan 4, 1827 to Abisha Clark #7766, A.D. #4-77.
!OCCUPATION & OTHER NOTES: William Clingan Esq. was a hatter by trade and a pedler. The files of the Chester County Historical Society contain the following paragraph about him: "Clingan, William of W. Fallowfield. Hatter by trade, and pedler. Purchased "Mt. Hope" patent east Gum Tree of Irwin & wife Jane Irwin. Wm Haslet was apt. justice July 15, 1776 district W. Caln Sudsbury and West F allowfield. After the death of William Clingan of West Caln, 1790, William Clingan of W. Fallowfield was elected in Sept 4, 1792 to take his place. Joseph Park succeed Aug 26, 1791 to Haslet's place. Haslet died Aug 12, 1791. William Clingan had a store in an addition in west end of house. A Post Office was there as of Apr 21, 1823. A clerk Samuel McClean was Post Master after death of Clingan. Babbs kept the store. The Post Office was there until June 3, 1834 when it was moved to west end of "row" in Gum Tree and name changed from Clingan to Gum Tree. Stephen B. Cochran was Post Master. The middle house of row (pump) on premises and log black smith shope were there in time of Charles Black."

Clingan, Esq. in West Fallowfield township; household and kitchen furniture, consisting of feather beds and bedding; one eight-day clock, and a variety of other articles,-Also, horses, cows, oxen, Young Cattle, Sheep and Swine. Hay by the ton; wheat, rye, corn and oats, by the bushel. Sale to begin at 12 o'clock on said day-and will be continued from day to day, until the whole property is disposed of. Cligan, Esq., deceased, are hereby informed that the docket and papers belonging to it are put into the hand sof John Gills, Esq. of West Fallowfield township for settlement.
