Shared note

From Mamam's Notebook: "George Scott spent his young manhood and active business life in Jacksonville, Ill. (my father was with him there many years). He made a great deal of money in merchandise and retired to live in McConnellsburg with his sister Maria Clingan Scott -- my grandmother. He never married. There is a family story of an early unhappy love affair. He was quiet, intensely reserved, loved by the few who knew him -- all the nieces and nephews in awe of him. He was very generous, the main support of his sister's large family -- always helping out in an emergency. 'Uncle George.' "
