Date: July 24, 2022 Text: "On Saturday evening a terrible accident, which terminated fatally, occurred to a fishmonger named John Ware, residing at Dukestown, Sirhowy. It appears that he had been hawking some fish at the Crooked-row, Newtown, and was returning to the market, where he had a stall. On emerging from the end of the row he did not observe an engine which was coming from the direction of the furnaces, the property of the Ebbw Vale Company, and was knocked down, the engine and wagons passing over him. His arm and leg were almost severed close to the body. The unfortunate fellow was not killed on the spot, but lived to be conveyed home, where he died a short time afterwards." |
